INFRASTRUCTURE AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A SURVEY OF MULTIREGIONAL ECONOMIC MODELS. IN: TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

This paper provides a review of operational multiregional economic models from the viewpoint of infrastructure. Three approaches can be distinguished towards the relationship between infrastructure and regional development. Firstly, infrastructure can be modeled as a production factor, in a production function. Secondly, infrastructure can be modeled as a location factor influencing the location of private investment or employment. Thirdly, the importance of transportation infrastructure can be analyzed via its impact on interregional trade flows.
