Experience with the Preparation and Use of 99mTc Sulfide Colloid

Summary The paper deals with simplified methods of preparing 99mTc sulfide colloid for visualizing the reticuloendothelial system, with the most frequent untoward reactions due to colloidal stabilizers, and with the protection of personnel against undue radiation exposure while preparing and administering the scanning colloid. Of the two widely used methods of preparation adapted and examined by us, the most convenient procedures produced untoward reactions: a pyrogenic reaction while using gelatin, and a histamine-type reaction while using dextran as stabilizers. A modified method using as stabilizer polyvinylpyrrolidone, an apyrogenic and non-antigenic substance, has been suggested.
