Study on risk assessment of cascading failures with event tree approach and Bayesian network

This paper proposes a new method to evaluate the operational risk of cascading failure in power systems considering multiple hidden failures of line protection. First the evolve-ment of cascading failures is investigated which reveals that power flow transferring and hidden failures of line protection are significant for cascading failures. Then this paper uses event tree approach to analyze the process of cascading failures with multiple hidden failures of line protection and the probability of each failure sequence during the cascading process is calculated by Bayesian network. Finally, the simulation case on IEEE 30-bus shows the validity of the proposed method.
