SPR based hollow prism used as refractive index sensor

Abstract We proposed and studied the sensing properties based on the surface plasmon resonance technology in a hollow prism. The ATR spectra of the RI of liquid from 1.30 to 1.38 is calculated by using the light source of 532 nm, the corresponding angular resolution is about 21.25°/RIU. The highest angular resolution of 34.44°/RIU is got at a thickness of 40 nm for the silver film. This configuration can be used as bio-chemical sensor based on sensing RI change to measure the concentration of NaCl solution.
