A Survey of Burn-in and Maintenance Models for Repairable Systems

Burn-in procedure is a manufacturing technique that is intended to eliminate early failures. Recently, there has been much research on burn-in procedures for repairable systems. Especially, burn-in procedures for general failure model have been developed and various reliability models which jointly deal with burn-in and maintenance policies have been investigated. Furthermore, a stochastic model for burn-in procedures in accelerated environment has been proposed and optimal accelerated burn-in has been studied under the proposed model. In this article, recent developments on burn-in and maintenance will be surveyed, mainly focusing on the minimal repair during burn-in and maintenance. Furthermore, current issues and some topics to be developed in the area of burn-in will also be discussed.
