The 67-year-old Peace Bridge that crosses the Niagara River to connect Buffalo, New York, and Fort Erie, Ontario (Canada), is a major international passageway, carrying 4,000 trucks and 23,000 cars per day. A 5-year project to recoat the bridge with a new two-coat zinc/epoxy composition system is under way and the coating manufacturer (Ameron) is managing 100 percent of the coating operation. This article explains the advantages of this coating management service concept, which places all the responsibility in the manufacturer's hands. The environmental aspects of the bridge recoating are addressed also.
