Influence of pump isolation mounts on the shock response of the loop systems

The effect of shock resistance and isolation mounts on marine pumps and the loop was modeled using the finite element method. The modes of pump with and without the isolators were computed, respectively. Increases in the stiffness of the isolation mounts increased the isolation with the isolator’s damping reducing the resonance hump in the system. The results of the influence of isolation on the shock response of the pump and flow loop show that the pump isolation improved the shock resistance and reduced accelerations of the loop components. The stresses of the system with the isolators meet the requirements of the American Societg of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code.
