A multi-OLT based WDM/TDM PON for QoS assurance and protection from fault

A novel multi Optical Line Terminal (OLT) based WDM/TDM Passive Optical Network (PON) is proposed to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) and fault protection for next generation(NG) PON systems. The future PON systems provide higher bandwidth and accommodate many types of users, its service level must be differentiated and this property should be maintained even during a protection mode. To meet this condition, two bandwidth management schemes are selected to ensure the QoS of each Optical Network Unit (ONU) and to maximize the total transmission efficiency at the same time. Performance of the proposed Exclusive Bandwidth Allocation (EBA) and Shared Bandwidth Allocation (SBA) schemes are also studied through extensive simulation. Both upstream and downstream network performances are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed schemes. These schemes can be good candidate to promote the new network architecture.
