Recently, the trend of manufacturing industry is the adoption of high-speed micro machining technology to increase productivity, and it is very important to various electrical/electronic, semi-conductor, automotive, micro machining device manufacturers. A micro endmill needs a device with highly sensitive cutting force and tool wear measuring system for a response to a high speed principal axis and delivery, since interrupted cutting is done with the rotation of a endmill. In addition, a precise measurement standard, instrument, and analysis technique are needed for exact flank wear evaluation, because an endmill rotates with a peculiar geometry like a relief, rake, and helix angle. Therefore, new micro tool dynamometer are developed. The cutting forces of micro endmilling can be measured by new micro tool dynamometer. But general dynamometer has low natural frequency and so is improper for measuring very high frequency cutting forces in micro endmilling. In this study, the new micro tool dynamometer and tool wear measuring system which has very high natural frequency is newly designed.
