Low Frequency Acoustic Tomography Using Matched Field Processing

A proposed novel, synoptic, and cost effective approach to large area, deep water ocean tomography will be described. The tech nique employs matched field processing applied to narrow band low frequency components of acoustic fields generated by distant air de ployed SUS and measured on widely spaced large aperture vertical arrays. The essence of the approach is to find the three-dimensiona l sound-speed structure which maximizes the matched field power at the known source location for the given arrays. The essential com pntational challenge involves an efficient search throngh a large parameter space. Simnlated results will be presented.
