A Special Case: Improving the EMI Head Scanner

This chapter presents a subtle change in the collection of projection data which can provide improved resolution in a reconstruction without requiring improved resolution of the projection data. We present this refinement in the context of the state of the art through the example of the first scanner, that built by the EMI company. The need for uniquely determined reconstructions as explained in earlier chapters is also stressed here. To the knowledge of the author, the theory of the accuracy of the output of existing x-ray scanners has yet to be placed on a sound mathematical basis.
