Decentralized control and computations: status and prospects

Abstract The objective of this paper is to review the past and present activities in the area of decentralized control of large scale interconnected systems, with an emphasis on dimensionality, information structure constraints, and uncertainty. A number of interesting topics for future research will be discussed in this context. Special attention will be focused on decompositions of large scale systems, because of their potential in providing the integration of decentralized control and parallel computation using modern multiprocessor architectures.
