A Dynamic Multi-mode Switching (DMS) Error Concealment Algorithm for Video Device Applications

In this paper, a new Dynamic Multi-mode Switching (DMS) Error Concealment algorithm for H.264 video device application is presented. The DMS algorithm focuses on H.264 intra-frames. The error concealment mode switching in DMS is dependant on the temporal/spatial correlation, edge magnitude, strength of the motion activity of the corrupted MacroBlock (MB), and the smoothness of the reconstructed MB. The experimental results show that the DMS algorithm can achieve significant gains in PSNR and therefore it can improve the decoded video quality.
