Manipulation workspace analysis using the Monte Carlo Method

Abstract The Monte Carlo method is used to determine the volume of the workspace of manipulators, the accessibility of the workspaces, and the effect of changes in the geometric parameters on the workspace volume. The method can form part of a routine for the optimal geometric synthesis of manipulators. The Monte Carlo method is shown to be very simple, and readily implemented. Several examples are presented.
