MoidEx: Location-based mTourism system on mobile devices

Tourism is a strong and important economic factor for many countries around the world. In the context of ubiquitous computing, tourism became a valuable application area which resulted in a broad range of business solutions. In this category, one can find solutions that provide navigation support for outdoor activities or point of interest (e.g., landmarks or restaurants) information for unknown places. Related to this, the paper introduces a location based mTourism system on mobile devices that supports tourists in gathering information about unknown buildings in foreign cities. In contrast to available systems, the framework analyzes the image on the device and sends only an MPEG-7 instance document which allows to save bandwidth and in series cost.
