A medical device, which allows imaging 3d conductivity distribution in the subsurface areas using the EIT approach, has been developed and tested. The purpose of the new system is the early detection and preliminary diagnosis of the breast tumours. Design of the measuring system and software are described. Results of clinical evaluation of the system are presented. EIT images of healthy and cancerous breasts are given and discussed. The evaluated system distinguishably visualises various states of the breast and can be applied to breast cancer detection.
