Strategies for Improving Energy Efficiency and Energy Management in Smaller Businesses

The paper relates to the establishment of an energy management programme to cover a large number of retail shops with special reference to small units. Reference is made to the initial survey and the work done with evaluation of the results, and the subsquent development of a programme to cover both people and equipment. A number of simple points which can have an important effect on energy use are considered with a review of the present and future opportunities. Some ideas on technical developments and innovation are included with consideration of the increased importance of the role of the Energy Manager. The results against original targets with future forecasts are included.
