BREAK REACTION TIMES OF UNALERTED DRIVERS

The statistical distribution of driver reaction times is discussed, and the results of four published investigations are analyzed and their parametric values are tabulated. The works of Gazis et al, Wortman and Mathias, Chang et al, and Sivak and collegues are considered. The statistical distribution of the brake reaction times is estimated by the lognormal probability density model. The fitting of the lognormal model to experimental data is described. All 4 experimental investigations yieled measures of central tendencies that were in close agreement. Specific comments are made on the individual studies.
