Analysis of Cluster Wireless Sensor Network Based on Energy Harvesting

Due to the limitation of the energy, the performances and applications were constrained of the pure batteries powered wireless sensor networks (WSNs). WSNs with energy harvesting extracting energy from the surrounding environment, supplement energy to the sensor nodes, can be significant prolong the lifespan of WSNs, or even make WSNs running for perpetual. In order to determine the node energy harvesting rate, we choose the energy saving hierarchical routing protocol LEACH, analysis the power consumption of network operation, ascertain the nodes average energy consumption in a single round. According to it, we set different energy harvesting rate and a simulation analysis was carried out. Simulations have been shown that when energy harvesting rate was equal to average energy consumption, part of the nodes were dead. When the rate was 2.5 times of the average, no node was get dead, but a lot of harvest energy has been wasted. Therefore LEACH is not suit for energy-harvesting WSNs.
