A dynamic channel assignment strategy using information of speed and moving direction in micro cellular systems

High speed mobile stations (HSMSs) in microcellular systems experience the problems of forced call termination (FCT) and channel changing (CC). The author proposes a new dynamic channel assignment (DCA) strategy using information on speed and moving direction to reduce FCT and CC in HSMSs. This strategy, SMD (speed and moving direction), is compared with the other main DCA strategies through simulation having one-dimensional service area covering a road, such as a highway. The simulation results show that the SMD strategy has the best performance with regard to reducing FCT and CC in HSMSs. The results also show that the difference between the SMD performance and other DCA strategies increases as cells become smaller and HSMSs become faster.<<ETX>>
