Some socio-economic characteristics of fertility

The authors examine fertility differentials by age group in relation to females caste social status education and age at marriage. The analysis is based on data from a 1978 survey of 4072 Indian couples from three villages representing different levels of social and economic development. The authors find that the average number of children ever born decreases among those of higher caste higher social status higher educational status and older age at marriage. (ANNOTATION)
