Image transmission with multiuser detection over DS/CDMA channels

We present a new framework for image transmission over wireless channels. Compressed images based on the SPIHT algorithm are channel coded using an unequal error protection (UEP) scheme, and then transmitted over a DS/CDMA system. Multiuser detection (MUD) at the receiver in conjunction with a UEP scheme reduces the effect of interference as well as channel errors. Simulation results indicate that the use of MUD techniques results in significant improvement in reception quality of the image and increases system capacity in DS/CDMA systems.
