Low complexity and high accuracy sampling frequency offset estimation and compensation algorithm in IMDD-OFDM system

In this paper, we propose a novel sampling frequency offset estimation algorithm to improve the performance of the practical intensity-modulation and direction-detection (IMDD)-based OFDM system. For this scheme, only OFDM symbol is used, which reduce the complexity of implement in practical system. And, by taking the relationship of phase rotating of subcarriers into account, we successfully estimate the SFO with the error limited within 3ppm by one OFDM symbols. After SFO compensation, the performance of OFDM signal is greatly enhanced that hard decision BER limit (3.8×10-3) can be achieved at sensitivity of −9dBm and 100 ppm SFO.
