Two Key Technologies of Multiprotocol Label Switching Applying to the ATM Environment

Multiprotocol label switching(MPLS)is the more perfect technology for designing backbone network. In order to solve the problems existed when MPLS crasised with ATM,analyzed the reasons based on the traits of ATM why many technologies had to be restricted or be changed while MPLS crasising with the standard ATM technology. Solved the routing loop problem making use of the detection method in ATM environment. Aimed at the characteristic that the MPLS label corresponded to the VPI/VCI field in ATM cell and the merging means the VPI/VCI merging,applied for the stream merge and stream aggregated technologies to reduce the use of labels and improve the network scalability. Pointed out the advangtages are more than the disadvantages by taking apart the VC merging scheme that must solve the cell interleaving problem.
