Information retrieval on the World Wide Web using a decision making system

It is very easy to be lost when trying to find information on the Web. This paper presents the RADIX system which guides browsing on the Web using a Case-Based Reasoning approach. We recall the CBR cycle and its applications to Information Retrieval (IR). We analyse Information Browsing Session (IBS) structure. A session is cut in semantically an strategically consistent components called Trial Units. Trial Units subpaths of the session path. Trial Units components are defined as Search Units. A Search Unit is an atomic path (node, transition, node) in a Trial Unit. Trial Units and Search Units are automatically detected in order to send session episodes structures. A system to collect cases (browsing episodes) has been developped according to the so defined information browsing model.
