Analytical consideration on reflection type of self-injection locked NRD guide gunn oscillator at 60 GHz

The reflection type of self-injection locked NRD guide Gunn oscillator was analyzed in frequency domain to confirm the phase noise reduction performance. The Q factor of the oscillation circuit was calculated based on the Ohira's theory, and was employed to calculate the phase noise spectrum. As the results, agreement between the calculated and measured phase noise performances was quite satisfactory, and hence the validity of the proposed analytical model. The Q-factor of the reflection type of self-injection locked NRD guide Gunn oscillator was about ten times as high as that of free-running state, and thus it was obvious that the reflection type of self-injection locking is effective technique for the phase noise reduction in millimeter wave oscillator.
