The Correlation between Phase Interferometric Angle of Arrival Estimation Quality Degradation and Uniform Linear Array Spacing

The object of this work is to investigate the influence of the array spacing of a Uniform Linear Array (ULA) of antennas on the Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation precision performed using a phase interferometry approach. The technique is very simple and it is suitable for a full-hardware AoA estimation system implementation. The correlation between array element spacing and estimation quality will be discussed from a mathematical point of view. A measurement campaign was performed in order to validate and empirically quantify theoretical results.
