A compact 16/spl times/16 channel arrayed-waveguide grating multiplexer with 1.6 nm (200 GHz) channel spacing at 1550 nm has been fabricated using acrylate polymers. The crosstalk is <-25 dB, uniformity is /spl plusmn/0.5 dB and on-chip loss is 7.7 dB. Device sizes as small as 16.5/spl times/12 mm/sup 2/ have been achieved.
