Design and Analysis of an XCP-TCP Gateway

The explicit control protocol (XCP), which has many desired properties such as short queuing delay, high utilization and so on, is considered promising for future high bandwidth-delay product (BDP) networks. However, the congestion control mechanism of XCP Is quite different from that of TCP, and as a result, XCP cannot coexist well with TCP. In this paper, we propose a scheme for Incremental deployment of XCP, In which XCP-TCP gateways seamlessly interconnect the XCP and TCP domains. The XCP-TCP gateway maps the congestion control functions between XCP and TCP. Our analysis and simulations show that: 1) TCP-XCP-like flows can coexist well with XCP; 2) TCP-XCP-llke flows have much better RTT fairness than TCP.
