RMS, DC, peak, and harmonic currents in high-frequency power-factor correctors with capacitive energy storage

The RMS, DC, and peak currents for five important power factor correctors with capacitive energy storage are presented. The correctors are a boost power converter with average current control and hysteretic control, a buck-boost power converter with automatic control, and a buck power converter with pulse width modulation (PWM) sinewave line current and modified sinewave line current. In the calculation of the current in the storage capacitor of the boost corrector with average current control, the effect of switched load is taken into account and a simple solution is recommended to reduce that current. For those correctors where fully sinusoidal line current is not achievable the line harmonics are also determined.<<ETX>>
