Although the authors say that the book is written as much for architects as for engineers and building scientists, architects are likely to be somewhat daunted by the sectors that deal with the calculation methods. On the other hand, theopening twochapters could be considered as a synopsis of architectural development for engineers. The problems facing the integrated design of a building are outlined in a chapter entitled “The System” but it is not until we reach the chapter dealing with the thermal environment that the authors get down to the subject quantitatively. At this stage it is worth remarking that throughout this book the referencing is excellent. Each chapter has a comprehensive and thoroughly researched list of references at its conclusion.
