A stable subcell model for arbitrarily oriented thin wires for the FDTD method

Thin-wire subcell models are widely used to allow the FDTD method to take wires thinner than the cell size into account. In this paper, a subcell model is generalized to handle arbitrarily oriented thin wires in an accurate way. The coupling of the Maxwell equations and the wire equations is discussed in detail. Stability of the subcell model is also shown and results for dipole antennas and loop antennas illustrates the performance of the new subcell model. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
