Study on A Novel Controllable Reactor Using in Ultra-high Voltage System

This paper analyzes the necessity of developing ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission system in China and introduces the excellent performance of the novel controllable reactor in UHV transmission system. The operation principle of the magnetic controllable reactor (MCR) is presented. Mathematical models of the UHV transmission line with MCR is established. According to the change of transmitted power, MCR can automatically and smoothly adjust its capacity. Therefore, it can limit the over-voltage, improve reactive power compensation, and raise transmission quality in UHV transmitting lines. Steady state and transient simulations of the system are performed. The result of simulation demonstrates its feasibility and effectiveness. At last, the development prospect of MCR is described in the paper.
