Module and Distortion Analysis for Video Decoding on Mobile Devices

The appearance of the new AVS standard offers opportunities for low power implementations of video encoders and decoders suitable for a wide range of mobile applications. AVS is the recent video coding standard developed by the Audio and Video Coding Standard Workgroup of China, which promises similar performance but lower complexity compared with H.264. This paper presents the complexity analysis of the video decoder, especially for AVS decoder via empirical experiments, and provides the influence of the decoder modules on distortion, which is valuable for power saving video decoder designing.
