Numerical studies on chaotic planar motion of satellites in an elliptic orbit

Abstract In this paper nonlinear attitude motion of an arbitrarily shaped satellite in its orbital plane is studied. For the planar motion in an elliptic orbit there exist chaotic regions. The characteristics of the chaotic motion are shown on Poincare maps.
