Simulation of Binary Groups of Particles with a Sub-Grid Scale Model in a Riser

The gas-solid two phase flow in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) riser is common and important, mainly because of its wide application in the petroleum, chemical and energy industries. It involves highly complex mechanisms, a result of random particle collisions and strong gas turbulence. In a CFB riser particle segregation is common due to different particle sizes and/or densities, and this plays an important role in the flow behaviour. In this work, a Discrete Element Method (DEM) numerical simulation of a gas-solid flow with two different sizes particles is investigated in a CFB riser. The gas turbulence is considered using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) method, and the anisotropic characteristics of particles are investigated.
