This paper describes the development of a web-based authoring tool for Intelligent Tutoring Systems. The tool aims to be useful to teachers and students of domains that make use of algebraic equations. The initial input to the tool is a “description” of a specific domain given by a human teacher. In return the tool provides assistance at the construction of exercises by the human teacher and then monitors the students while they are solving the exercises and provides appropriate feedback. The tool incorporates intelligence in its diagnostic component, which performs error diagnosis to students’ errors. It also handles the t eaching material in a flexible and individualised way.
