Decentralized State Observers for Large-Scale Systems

Abstract Three basic structures of decentralized state observers are discussed: (1) the totally decentralized observer exclusively employing data and signals of the subsystem itself, (2) the partially decentralized observer also employing global input and/or output signals, (3) the decentralized observer including a reduced-order interaction model. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of each observer as well as corresponding design techniques are presented.
