Interferometric imaging of a thermally luminous two-dimensional object

Abstract A high-quality image of a small two-dimensional object illuminated by a thermal source is reconstructed in spite of a laboratory-generated turbulence. The effects of the turbulence can be suppressed by properly processing the interferometric data. The photon noise which limits the applicable class of objects is also experimentally studied by using a detector operating in a photon counting mode.
