New methodologies for the reliability-based analysis and design of water distribution systems. Final report. Technical report

A survey of over 25 utilities in the U.S. to determine the state of the art of data collection and the availability of data on the failure and repair of aging water-distribution systems led to the discovery that very little effort has been made by most cities to develop and maintain data bases. Methodologies and mathematical models were developed for: the optimal design and expansion of water-distribution systems; the optimal rehabilitation and replacement of water distribution-system components; the reliability-based evaluation for aging water distribution-systems and optimal reliability-based design of new systems; and the reliability analysis of pumping stations and storage facilities for both aging systems and the design of new facilities.
