MODEL GENERATION AND VISUALIZATION OF WARTBURG CASTLE

In a joint project between Bundeswehr University Munich and Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg different methods to generate a 3D model of Wartburg Castle have been investigated. Several data acquisition devices were used, i.e. high resolution digital cameras and a low resolution camcorder. The virtual reconstruction of the historical building was accomplished by means of the low-cost (photogrammetric) software packages Canoma and PhotoModeler as well as by fully automatic computer vision methods for camera calibration, image orientation, and model generation. In this paper, the survey of Wartburg Castle is described and results of the modelling procedures are presented.
