Pregnant With Cystic Fibrosis: One Case Study Explores the Nursing Interventions of a Twin Gestation CF Patient

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that affects some 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. What has changed about CF in the last 30 years is life expectancies: In 1970, individuals with CF had a life expectancy of eight years. Today their survival age is approximately 30 years. This means that with increased life expectancies, women with CF are now reaching childbearing age and may choose to become pregnant. Providing care to these patients is a relatively new challenge facing health care providers. Here's what every nurse needs to know when providing care for a pregnant woman with CF.
