Leaky-Wave Antennas with Loaded Complementary Components for High-Performance and Wideband Application

Complementary structures are widely used in antenna design to achieve excellent performance. In this paper, our recent efforts in deploying complementary components in designing leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) with high performance are reviewed with emphasis on (1) suppression of open-stopband aiming to broadside radiation, (2) gain and radiation efficiency stabilization over the entire operation band of an LWA, and (3) suppression of frequency beam scanning of an LWA. Our design methods are effective to improve LWAs and extend their application scenarios.
