Digital image segmentation method and device thereof

PURPOSE: A device and method for dividing a digital image are provided so that the image can be divided at a high speed for object unit processing. CONSTITUTION: An image stream is grouped to a plurality of consecutive frame groups(102). A specific frame of the group is set up as I frame, and the other frames of the group are set up as P frames(104). The I frame is divided into a plurality of regions(122). Then, the divided regions of the I frame are motion-estimated in regard to the P frame, thereby extracting a motion vector(144). Thereafter, the divided regions of the I frame are moved by the motion vector, and set up as the divided regions of the P frame(146), thereby dividing the P frame. That is, the division of the I frame is applied to the P frame. In addition, it is unnecessary to divide every frame as in a conventional method which spends an extended period of time. Accordingly, the digital image can be rapidly divided, so that it can be processed in object units. Moreover, the regions of the divided image can be traced at a high speed.
