Large-Scale Photonic Integrated Circuits Used for Ultra Long Haul Transmission

Commercially available monolithic Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) capable of transmitting at a rate of 100 Gbps have been scaled to incorporate a record number of discrete components exceeding a count of 280 per PIC pair. Recently, it has been demonstrated that these highly reliable devices are not reach-limited and are inherently capable of Ultra Long-Haul (ULH) transmission. We will present results showing that 800 Gbps transport with high polarization mode distortion.
