A NEW APPROACH TO INTERCEPTIBIL ITY ANALYSIS OF 3-DIMENSIONAL PPNG LAW

A lot of effort has been recently devoted to the interceptibility analysis of the pure proportional naviga- tion guidance (PPNG). Nonetheless, there are still significant discrepancies between those analysis results and the realistic interceptibility of the PPNG law. In this paper, a vector anal- ysis approach based on the so-called 'LOS plane' is presented to investigate the interceptibility of the 3-dimensional PPNG law against targets maneuvering with time-varying normal ac- celerations. The analysis result is not only much less restric- tive than those presented in the prior works but also sufficient to explain well the high interceptibility of the PPNG law in practice. Our approach is expected to enable us to take fully into account more general pursuit situations.
