Calculation Models of Soil Pressure in Opened Bottom Elliptical Barrel Structure

Two calculation models are established for inner soil pressure of opened bottom elliptical barrel structure (OBEBS) using penetration of negative pressure method. One model is for construction stage, pressure of inner soil in cabins at this stage was divided into three zones: active zone, transition zone and passive zone. The other model is for operational stage, pressure of inner soil in cabins at this stage was divided into two zones: active zone and passive zone. The theoretical analytical solutions of inner soil pressure for construction stage and operational stage were derived. The analytical formulas derived in this paper and finite element method were used to analyze the inner soil pressure of OBEBS at same time and condition. The models were used to calculate the carrying capacity of the former site and settlement of the structure. The models of inner soil pressure provided a scientific method for design and construction of the new multi-position structure.
