A MINIATURIZED SQUARE PIFA ANTENNA FOR CELLULAR COMMUNICATION APPLICATION

A miniaturized Square shaped Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) for GSM1800 band application, resonating at 1.82 GHz frequency, is presented. A miniaturization approach has been taken for the designing of PIFA by making the ground plane defected by a thin shorting plate, making the antenna low profile with total height of 0.06λ as compared to an ordinary Microstrip Patch Antenna. The size occupied by the proposed antenna is 0.13λ × 0.13λ mm. The measured result has shown the maximum gain of 2.130 dB and the bandwidth of 4.43% (1805-1880 GHz), which are compatible with the present cellular requirements.
