In this paper, a plate forging simulation technique is presented with emphasis on a special compound die, which moves with given velocity in the early stage and exerts the prescribed force on the material after its forming load exceeds the given force. The velocity of the shadow die which has direct influence especially on friction is determined by its displacement divided by time increment of the previous solution step. A typical test example of a plate forging process is studied by two- and three-dimensional finite element simulation techniques.
