Fuzzy logic based inductor design program

A simple inductor design may incorporate a number of factors such as magnetic saturation, window fill, air gap, space, cost, etc. The design process may involve a number of iterations to get an optimum size inductor for the given inductance and the current value. This paper presents a new approach based on fuzzy logic which will optimize the design in one iteration. By fuzzy inferencing, the best core is selected in each of the core categories (RM, EE, POT, EP, etc.). A two dimensional fuzzy logic approach has been well documented in literature. This paper presents an n-dimensional fuzzy logic approach which is an essential extension of the two dimensional approach. This paper describes in detail the fundamentals of fuzzy logic and the operation of the software program for the design of DC bias inductors using fuzzy logic. The core database in the program can be easily enhanced to include cores of all types and shapes.
